TakeBetter Photo's by Roy Ackrill.

Since 2005 photographic films have virtually disappeared in favour of Digital Photography - Roy Ackrill of Backwell Probus gave a detailed introduction to this new technology at Clevedon 1974 Probus Club, by describing the best type of camera's, and how to apply their utilisation. He advised using digital cameras weekly, recharge batteries frequently to keep them in good order - and always have a small camera handy for instant use!

He explained the basis of good photography by a combination of - Aperture - Shutterspeed - ISO Factor (film or Digital capture speed). By adjusting your camera to all of these factors to suit the prevailing conditions will vastly improve your pictures when not using AUTO mode. Conditions to take into account include Sunlight or Shadow, Object speeds, or Distance from the camera lens i.e.,Close-up or Far Distant. He also spoke of the various lenses available.

Finally, he recommended commercial printing instead of printing from your computer - it is far cheaper. Roy also stressed the importance of downloading pictures to your computer, with separate backup – to avoid lost images.

Roy Ackrill had many fine examples of his photography, and his talk was well illustrated and most interesting. Arthur Marrow, Member
